CBSD supports the following Charities and Works with The Three Bears
Foundation to raise funding for their specific requirements.
The Preventorio infantil in Gandia provides a home for over 40 orphaned children who have suffered the devastating loss of their parents or have been abandoned at a very young age. The orphanage is run by elderly nuns who receive no financial assistance from the government. Therefore the Preventorio relies on public donations to provide necessary items for the children who live there. The building has no heating, so donations of pyjamas, warm clothing (sweatshirts, socks, and slippers), and bedding (blankets, duvets, covers, and mattresses) are sought after and greatly appreciated.
The Francescan Refuge for Homeless men shelters and cares for over 40 men who suffer with debilitating mental illness, physical disability, and terminal illness. The shelter is run by two Francescan Monks who provide 24-hour care for the patients. Due to the fact the refuge receives nothing from the government –where the next meal is coming from is big problem. It often comes to the point that the monks don their robes and go to Gandia town and beg for donations. The shelter also has no heating so gifts of warm clothing and warm bedding are greatly appreciated. The shelter is currently attempting to expand it’s premises and build a new wing for the Medical unit. Unfortunately, they do not currently have the finances. There is progress with each donation, but construction is gradual because priority is placed on 24/7 care of the patients.
The Ark at Guadalest is a unique and extraordinary rescue center and animal shelter. This establishment was founded by one man who continues to maintain the shelter with help from volunteer assistants. The shelter is very costly to maintain, with expenses averaging 800 euros daily for Veterinarian bills and food. The unique collection of animals includes bears, chimpanzees, snakes, wolves, camels, lions. white tigers, feral cats, and pumas. All of these animals have been rescued by Customs workers or have come from circuses and experimental labs.
The Ark manages to shelter many of these special animals in specialist zoos and breeding establishments across the world. Visitors are welcome at the Ark and donations are encouraged with each visit, but donations continue to fall short of the overwhelming expenses. Therefore, equipment, such as electric heating blankets, is greatly needed. The shelter also accepts second-hand donations, such as blankets, which are used to care for sick animals. All equipment and monetary donations are greatly appreciated by the ark.
